Historic Transformation Crowned with Award: Architectural Heritage for Samsun by Gökhan Bulut

The transformation project signed by Gökhan Bulut, which brings together the historical texture of Samsun with modern education, has garnered great acclaim. The tobacco warehouses, one of the symbolic structures of the Turkish War of Independence, were converted into the Samsun University Faculty of Architecture and Design, creating an exemplary project that serves as both a sign of respect for the past and an investment in the future.

Implemented under the "Architect of Civilization" project initiated with the vision of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, this transformation was honored with the first prize at the Necip Fazıl Architecture Awards. The project was found remarkable not only from an architectural standpoint but also in terms of preserving and repurposing cultural heritage.

Undertaken by Gökhan Bulut Design, the project showcases the power of architecture in serving education and social memory while successfully reflecting the philosophy of "building the future with respect for the past."

Rising in the light of education, this exemplary structure continues to inspire new horizons in Turkey's architectural transformation journey.
